Rytex Gundogs

At Rytex Gundogs they handle selectively bred dogs for themselves and people throughout the country. After more than twenty years trialling, they have won the AV Spaniel Championship a record breaking seven times (six British and one Irish), and the Cocker Spaniel Championship four times in the last seven years.

Run by Ian and Wendy Openshaw, the couple have made up Champions which include Springer and Cocker Spaniels and Labradors.

Unfortunately for both Ian and Wendy, due to ill health Ian's father passed away in late November 2011. He will be sorely missed as Ian has stated he was a great help in carrying out all the necessary paperwork required to compete in trials and all of the necessary paperwork for registrations.

A bit late for last season as per usual Ian and Wendy had a good season in 2011/2012 and made 6 new champions 1 for Wendy and 5 for Ian. Ian didn't run in the springer championship January 2012 as he was judging which he thoroughly enjoyed and was honoured to be invited to judge.

In the cocker championship both Ian and Wendy were a bit disappointed with FTCH Mallowdale Midge results as both of them thought she would have contention for first place had it not been for one unfortunate mistake made. Her hunting was twice as powerful as Chyknell Iris. Both Ian and Wendy however were pleased that Ian came 2nd with Chyknell Iris for Mr J Shotton and 3rd with Single Star for Mr N Partis. Chynkell Iris whom finished 2nd had the worst ground to hunt imaginable which they believe alot of other dogs would not have done. Also Ian came away with CoM with FTCH Mallowdale Midge for Mr J Healey. CoM with Tip Top Jack Dime for Mr N Partis and CoM for Wendy with Tip Top Jack Sixpence who also was awarded guns choice.

Both Ian and Wendy are looking forward to the coming season as they have stated they have lots of new dogs coming through. Ian has one particular which he thinks alot of called Mallowdale Xfactor but they will let him do the talking.

Field Trials have started, we have already won the Novice Cocker Trials wth Mallowdale Music and Tip Top Jack Sixpence. Qualified for the Cocker Championship with Mallowdale Midge. On Friday October 7th, 2011 Ian won the Yorkshire Gundog Open Springer Trial, making Cidw Daisy to a FTCH, this being his 92nd.

Ian has now made his 93rd Field Trial Champion, Mallowdale Midge on October 25th 2011.

Brief History

At the tender age of 15, Ian Openshaw won his first Open Qualifier with a Springer. Between them, Ian and Wendy have made up 90 Champions including eleven Labradors. To date there have been six AV Champions which include Rytex Racine, British and Irish Championship Winner. Others include Poppet of Balscotte, Kenine Tina, Rytex Rime, Whitehope Solitaire and Rytex Roel. The year he won with Rytex Roel was also the year he won the first Cocker Championship with Parkbreck Perfection . He has also won the Cocker Championship three times with Parkbreck Perfection, Chyknell Goldstar and Danderw Druid. Wendy also won the Cocker Championship with Chyknell Megan.
