Rytex Gundogs
At
Rytex Gundogs they handle selectively bred dogs for themselves and people throughout
the country. After more than twenty years trialling, they have won the AV Spaniel
Championship a record breaking seven times (six British and one Irish), and the
Cocker Spaniel Championship four times in the last seven years.
Run by Ian and Wendy Openshaw, the couple have made up Champions which include Springer and Cocker Spaniels and Labradors.
Pictured above is Danderw Druid, Cocker Champion 2006. He sired Chyknell Goldstar and Chyknell Megan, both of whom have also won the Cocker Championship. Megan has also won the American Championship and all before the age of two.

It is often said that a good dog has a good trainer but a good trainer always
has a good dog. In the case of Ian Openshaw, it is always more than one good dog.
Ian has the ability to select the best, train to the highest standard and beat
the best at the highest level of competition. His record of Field Trial Champions
and Championship winners speaks for itself.
Ian Openshaw is not only a great breeder, handler and trainer, he is generous
in many ways with help, advice and support to others. He not only has the ability
to train dogs but also to select the right one for other people and show them
how to train. If he can help in any way he will, but if you ask for advice and
opinion expect the truth and it being given straight. Sometimes his words are
not for the faint hearted or those hoping just for approval of what they have
done, or the dog they own.
Over many years, I have been fortunate to train with, judge, be judged by, compete
against, ghost write for, make videos with, do business and especially visit and
enjoy the company of very good friends, Ian and Wendy Openshaw. Always the welcome
mat is there. Ian is to the Spaniel world what Tiger Woods is to Golf. He is the
man you have to beat and that is no easy job.
Ian and Wendy Openshaw have made the Rytex name synonymous with quality bred and
trained English Springer Spaniels and Cockers, the record books are in the process
of being rewritten through their achievements but hold on, I know there is more
to come. I once asked Ian when he won his second Championship what he now wanted
to achieve. His answer was that every trial was there to be won and the Championship
was just another trial. Another dog and another trial is always waiting for Ian
and Wendy
I am proud to call Ian and Wendy my friends, together we have experienced the
most wonderful times with dogs and in doing so had so much enjoyment. I would
not ask advice on spaniels from any other trainers. They are the best of the best.
